This is not a drill! Do not reuse your condoms!

We know, we’re as shook as you are. Because who in their right mind thinks of reusing condoms? This isn’t what we meant when we say that we should take recycling seriously. Talk about taking it to a whole new level.

Condoms are a great way to protect yourself against unwanted pregnancy scares and STD’s/ STI’s. Please note WHEN it is used correctly. And that ladies and gentlemen, includes not reusing or washing your condoms. This public service announcement comes much needed after the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) tweeted out, urging people to not reuse their condoms.

Now you know that if the CDC is tweeting about this, then this has got to be a bigger problem than we think it is. In all seriousness, condoms are meant for single use. And if you thought why not, then that's exactly where you’re wrong. Washing or reusing a condom will diminish its effectiveness so you might as well do yourself a favour, run to your local drugstore or 7-Eleven and get you a new pack.

And while we’re discussing on how reusing condoms is ineffective, it's also super gross and further puts you and your partner at risk. Soap and water won’t remove all of the tiny microorganisms on, inside and around the condom and makes the latex more prone to tearing. Condoms can prevent the spread of most STDs/STIs like chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis BUT, only when used correctly.

"And when you put on this “washed and almost brand new” condom, it’s more likely to not fit and tear anyways,” Dr. Alyssa Dweck, a board-certified OB-GYN and author of The Complete A to Z for your V, told SPREAD. You should use the condom in the way the manufacturer has intended. #ReadTheInstructions if you don’t, you cannot rely on the condom anymore to do those duties,” Dweck said. Simply put, use the condom straight from opening it from the original packet, keeping it on throughout intercourse and then wearing a new one when you decide to go for round 2. Or round 3. Or more.

Even more simply put, once you use a condom, it should go straight in the trash where it belongs. Don’t even think of doing anything otherwise kids. Trust us on this. Now we get that these things can get a little pricey but there’s two options. We can either have less sex or watch out for promotions. And since we’re obviously not going to have less sex, you could always buy in bulk when there’s sales. OneCondom’s constantly has deals off not only condoms but personal lubricants as well.

And that’s the good tea on how to be healthy thots everyone! Just remember to use a brand new condom every time you’re about to get some and you’re good to go. Now get out there and go live your best lives!
